Little Kids Rock Expands Free Music Program and Donates Instruments for Nearly 950 Atlanta Children

National nonprofit donates hundreds of instruments and curriculum to Atlanta Public Schools

Atlanta, Ga., Feb. 3, 2010 Little Kids Rock, a leading nonprofit provider of musical instruments and free, music programs in the United States public school system, today announced that it will expand its free music programming to 20 new sites in Atlanta-area public schools. This initiative will represent the third time that Little Kids Rock has supported the Atlanta Public School System by bringing free instruments and an innovative music education program to under-served students. This new expansion has been made possible through generous support from the Dr. Phil Foundation and from General Electric Capital Solutions.

On February 5-6 at the Atlanta Public Schools Instructional Service Center in the Rusk Building, Little Kids Rock will instruct participating teachers in its unique curriculum and provide participating schools with hundreds of brand-new instruments, along with software and curricular materials. Teachers who complete the workshop will begin leading Little Kids Rock classes this school year, helping reach a total of nearly 1900 students in the Atlanta-area.

“Little Kids Rock has provided the support, structure and materials needed for my music club at Sutton Middle School in Atlanta,” said Robert Weatherly, a current Little Kids Rock teacher. “I couldn't do it without the Little Kids Rock team having my back at every turn. They really want to help me teach my kids to rock. The best part is that the kids love it!”

Little Kids Rock launched in Atlanta in 2007 and has delivered more than $113,000-worth of free instruments, curriculum and materials to 934 kids since then, all for free.

The following Atlanta Public Schools will benefit from the Little Kids Rock program and instrument donation:

Charles R. Drew Charter School, Corley Elementary School, Deerwood Academy School, Frank L. Stanton Elementary School, Garden Hills Elementary School, Henry W. Grady High School, Lilburn Elementary School, Lithonia Middle School, Meadowcreek Elementary School, Mountain Park Elementary School, North Atlanta High School, Sky Haven Elementary School, Susan Stripling Elementary School, Sutton Middle School, Thomasville Heights Elementary School
