“These kids want to belong to something...
I would rather it be a band than a gang."

- Dr. Phil

The Dr. Phil Foundation launched Little Kids Rock Across America (LKRAA) with a $500,000 donation designed to restore, revitalize and enhance music programs in schools in 10 cities across the country. The program brings modern, band-focused music education to schoolchildren from grades K through 12 in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Tampa, Minneapolis and New Orleans.

To make this happen, the Dr. Phil Foundation has partnered with Little Kids Rock, a nonprofit organization with a proven track record of transforming children’s lives by restoring and revitalizing music education in underfunded public schools.

Since LKRAA launched in December 2009, more than 33,160 students in 165 schools have been served by this unique program designed to encourage youth to form bands. To date, teacher workshops on how to implement LKRAA into their schools have been conducted in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Tampa, New York City and Philadelphia, Dallas, Chicago and Washington DC. More than 190 classroom and music teachers have been trained. Two additional workshops are scheduled to take place in early 2011 in New Orleans and Minneapolis in early 2011. With funds donated by The Dr. Phil Foundation, more than 7,125 guitars, basses and keyboards have been purchased for LKRAA sites.
